Beckie and Joe
Dear Expectant Mother and Family,
Thank you for taking the time to read our letter and learn a little bit about our family. The entire journey through the adoption of our daughter was a beautiful blessing filled with love and hope. We are so excited for the opportunity to lovingly adopt another child into our home. Our philosophy on life and parenting is to treat others as we would like to be treated: kindness and respect are our driving force.
Your decision to allow us to be part of your adoption plan is one of the biggest decisions either of us will face for the rest of our lives. The amount of courage and faith you have is admirable. Below is our opportunity to tell you a little bit more about ourselves, and in the future, maybe we’ll get to learn more about you as well!
Joe and Beckie met in the woods of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan while on a bible study retreat for our respective college campuses. Neither of us planned to meet someone, but it was meant to be as we got to know each other. Beckie is -tragically to most- allergic to chocolate, while Joe finds the taste... off-putting. Thus began a conversation that has never ended, even after getting married in 2009.
Beckie has always loved children, from her time as a Sunday school teacher in high school; working summers at a daycare during college; then graduating with her music education degree; to becoming a general music teacher for over five hundred students. Beckie doesn't want to just teach the kids, she wants to know them personally while also giving them the ability to appreciate music. But nothing compares to the joy and love she finds in being E’s momma. She cannot wait to share that love with another child and for E to have a sibling.
Joe comes from a family of two sisters, a step-brother, a step-sister, a half-brother, and a half-sister. He understands the importance of being a family and attributes his love of listening and conversation to his unique upbringing. His sisters and brothers are always asking for his opinion -- especially since he loves to research anything and everything and is the second eldest of the crew. Joe has a knack for detail, which helps a lot in his profession as a software engineer. Joe is a kind and patient dad, who loves teaching E new things and helping her paint or play outside.
E is a caring and curious little three-year-old who loves music, dancing, Disney (especially princesses), and her two puppies. She loves spending time with her mom and dad. She is cherished and has won the hearts of her grandparents, aunties, and uncles. Her favorite activities are pretending to cook, playing outside, and playing dress-up with her friends and cousins.
We love to have fun and most importantly laugh, whether it is game nights at our house or gatherings with friends and family. Our plan is to incorporate our future family with the things we have the most fun doing: kayaking, playing outside, gardening, reading, watching movies, and going on adventures. Sadie, our little hound dog, and Max, our rescued lab mix, are also prepared to welcome a new person to our family!
As parents, we plan to honor and respect your relationship with your child through open discussions, a life-book, and talking about you and your family. We believe it's important to discuss adoption with a child from an early age and we are comfortable with whatever level of openness you would like to have, whether it is private or open through exchanging photos, phone calls, emails, or visits.
Thank you for taking the time to catch a glimpse of our lives, and the best of luck to you on finding a family to share your story with.
Joe, Beckie, and E
