Requirements for Domestic Adoption

A prospective adoptive parent will be considered as a candidate for Adoptions Services' Domestic Adoption Program if they meet the following criteria:

• Couples must be married a minimum of two years. (Step Parent adoption, the couple must be married one year.)

• Couples must have experienced infertility and are no longer actively seeking infertility treatment.

• Adoptive parent must be of an age range acceptable to birthparents.

• Adoptive parent must be in reasonably good health. Individuals who are in remission from cancer, or have received alcohol and/or drug therapy, will be assessed on a case by case basis.  

• Adoptive parent will have an income adequate to provide for the daily living of a child.  

• Adoptive parent will be asked to work only with Adoption Services, Inc. for their adoption search.

• Adoptive parent must notify the agency immediately if a successful pregnancy is achieved.  

• Adoptive parent must understand a second adoption cannot be attempted until the adoption of the first child is finalized and the child is at least one-year of age.  

• Adoptive parent will be limited to two adoptive placements unless it is a case of a child or children with special needs.  

• Single individuals may apply with the agency.  

• Criteria limits may be adjusted in the case of children with special needs.

Interested families and single prospective adoptive applicants shall meet the requirements listed above. Adoption Services will work with a caseload in their agency “pool” of no more than 25 adoptive parents at a time. The agency will maintain a list of waiting couples to be studied as openings occur in this pool. Adoptive finalization cannot occur if any medical, legal, or agency fees are outstanding. Adoption Services, Inc. reserves the right to make exceptions to any and all of the above criteria.
